Implementation of conceptual art project “Art in the City” by Ksenia Kokel, student of CHSPUThe project “Art in the City” won in the All-Russian competition of youth projects. Ksenia Kokel, the student of the Faculty of Art and Music Education, was granted 100,000 rubles to implement the project.
According to the author’s idea, the unsightly buildings of the city were to turn into attractive objects d’art. Ksenia had examined the city to identify those unsightly places. Finally, she had chosen the building of the tracking substation No.8 of the Cheboksary Trolleybus Control. The building is located next to the shopping center “Kaskad”.
Ksenia decorated the building wall with the famous illustration of the Chuvash girl by Peter Sizov (this illustration was made for the poem “Narspi” in 1968).
Ksenia Kokel: “The aim of this project is to increase the significance and recognition of the Chuvash culture represented by the fragments of works by the famous Chuvash writers. Since I am about to get the major in “Easel Painting”, I have done all the basic work myself. The work schedule was very tough. Valery Aleksandrovich Chebotkin, the lecturer who supervised the work, is demanding in terms of attendance. Every day I started painting the wall at 6 a.m., then I attended the university classes, and after classes I worked from 5 to 8 p.m. However, my friends helped me. They are Anastasia Poslushnaya, second-year student of the correspondence department of the faculty of Art and Music Education, Alla Skvortsova, graduate of the faculty of Art and Music Education, and Dmitry Egorov, graduate of Cheboksary Art School. We had been working for a month and a half.
It was nice to hear positive feedback from the city residents. It inspires to make even greater projects. I am planning the work on a new project on the Chuvash folk tales and legends, which is creating sketches and embodying them on the building of the city. I hope it will be a success!”
